Climbing Khao Daeng viewpointClimbing Khao Daeng viewpoint while you in the area of Phraya Nakhon Cave at Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park Thailand should definitely be something to aspire towards doing.

Located a short drive or scooter ride from Hua Hin, the main park headquarters in the national park’s southern area, Khao Daeng (“Red Mountain”) is the best place in Sam Roi Yot to get your fix of hiking with unimpeded views as your reward at the end.

The hiking trail begins just off the main road down a short dirt track and climbs steeply and ruggedly up to the 157-metre-high lookout, where you can chill out and enjoy northern panorama over the mountains and prawn farms below, and eastern views out to the Gulf.

The area at the top is small, so going in a limited numbers group is recommended. Doing the climb early would ensure massive rewards with a memorable sunrise.

Climbing Khao Daeng viewpointAs always take plenty of water, and if going alone at least let someone know where you are as sections of the climb can be quite dangerous for the novice.

The trail itself is not very clearly marked in sections, and don’t expect to see any national park officials on site.

The hike can take around 45 minutes for those in average shape. Be sure to continue to the true summit, as there are a few sections where it looks like you cannot continue any further.

The final section is very steep, and you are climbing over sharp crystallized rock. The true summit has the wooden sign shown in the photo.
