Visarun Bangkok to Vientiane Laos with added French Cuisine

French cuisine LaosSo you have been staying in Thailand for some time, and your current Visa is about to expire after you have done a 30 day extension at Thai Immigration.

What do you do now? You, like me, obviously want to stay in Thailand as you have made many new friends, and you haven’t finished exploring the beautiful country that is on offer.

Beef Carpaccio Laos French food VientanneWell you have the obvious option to join one of the many tour’s targeted at Visarun Bangkok, or from other areas like Chiang Mai or Phuket. But I am here to tell you about doing your Visa run via plane.

My option this time around was to jump on a jet plane at Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok and fly to Laos.

The trip itself is only just over an hour, and the return tickets can be found for under 3000thb.

Upon landing in Laos, a Visa on arrival is available about 1500thb, but if you have USD you will find it can be obtained for less than that.

Finding yourself a cheap place to stay is easy to do, and you will have plenty of time to kill, given you will need to drop your passport and application off at the Thai Embassy between 7.30am – 11.30am on day one, and pick it up again the next day between 1.30pm and 3.30pm.

These times make it difficult with flights, and AirAsia flys into Laos at around 3pm and departs back to Bangkok at 2.30pm, both meaning you fligh in fligh out visarun will take 4 days in total.

Tango restaurant Laos French cuisine vientiane Best way I found to kill time in Vientiane is to eat, it has such a huge multicultural diversity and the price of food is so cheap. I found a great French restaurant called Tango Bar and Pub, on the main drag which was my home every night given their spectacular menu.

I havn’t had Beef Carpaccio since being in France some 20 years ago, so sitting outside in Laos and having that as an entree was just bliss. Main’s saw me drooling over a perfectly presented piece of steak, served with mash potato and blue vein cheese sause.

Lao SandwichAnother must when your in Laos is to find yourself a food cart on the street that sells sandwiches.

This is the 3rd time I have been to Laos now, and everytime I make a point in grabbing one of these sandwiches, will with meat and fresh vegetables. Keep your passport safe when traveling.
